OUR MINISTRY
Founded in 1866 as the First Congregational Church of Benicia, the original church building was on West J Street. Our new beautiful building on West Second was built and dedicated in 1962. And as recent as two years ago we renovated the campus to provided a safer space for all who use our buildings.
Current membership of the church is over 80 members. Our children and youth enjoy participation in our Sunday School program and various events throughout the year. Activities for adults include the church choir, The Rolling Tones Handbells, Tuesday Dogs and Dominoes, and monthly gatherings such as Book Club, Game Night and Senior Saints Dinner. Our activities also vary from year to year, but there is always fun, study, service, and fellowship. You can also experience the personal meditation of a walk on our labyrinth or sit and watch the water of the Carquinez Strait.
We are an Open and Affirming Congregation, welcoming YOU, whoever you are, no matter what. We believe that God made each one of us, and loves us all, and so we do our best to love one another. It doesn’t matter how much money you have, what color your skin, whether you are gay or straight, old or young, male or female. It doesn’t matter if you wear jeans to church or your “Sunday Best.” We make every effort to be a beautiful rainbow-inclusive diverse community.
We also actively participate in helping the needy in our community from providing hats & gloves, sleeping bags, sock and under ware at Christmastime, apartment kits to aging out Foster Youth, to backpacks to Kindergarteners during the summer. We also partner with various other organization to provide turkeys at Thanksgiving, warm coats, and sponsoring families at Christmas and other help as needed. The church is host to a number of community groups, including A.A., N.A., Al-Ateen and Al-Anon, and Playing to Learn Childcare.
We are eager serve our community even if you are not a member of our congregation. If you are looking for a church home, explore our website and take a look at the UCC’s Still Speaking Resources, and then please visit us in worship on Sunday morning, at 10am.
